AW26 Hair Trends Decoded: The Five Runway Looks You Can Actually Wear

Most runway hair is a fantasy with three stylists and a can of dry shampoo behind it. Not this season. The autumn winter hair trends for 2026 are unusually wearable: looser, softer, and built around movement rather than architecture. The catch is that nearly all of them rely on one thing the average head doesn't have in September, which is density.

The five defining AW26 hair trends are the strong side parting, the low ponytail with natural texture, the deliberately undone textured updo, voluminous curls, and rich autumnal colour. Each depends on volume and length to read correctly, which is why clip-in hair extensions are the fastest route to wearing them without a salon appointment.

1. The Side Parting, Back With Conviction

Sweep your hair to one side and you've changed your whole face. Side partings were everywhere at the AW26 shows, from Victoria Beckham's sharply parted, loosely tied hair to Gucci's revival of the 90s deep part. Marie Claire UK called it the season's easiest reset, and it costs nothing to try.

Extensions matter here because a deep part pushes most of your hair onto one side, which can leave the look lopsided if your hair is fine. A weft clipped in on the heavier side balances the weight so the parting reads as deliberate rather than flat.

2. The Low, Loose Ponytail

This is not the slicked-back gym pony. AW26's version sits low at the nape, holds its natural texture and moves when you do, and it's arguably the most wearable style of the season for anyone who works, commutes and gets dressed in ten minutes.

A ponytail exposes exactly how much hair you have. Two wefts clipped in below the crown before you gather the length turn a thin tail into a full one, and nobody will know why yours looks better than it did last winter.

3. Textured Updos That Look Like You Slept On Them

The tight chignon has been retired. Stylists across the AW26 collections built updos that let strands escape on purpose, with softness around the face and neck instead of a lacquered finish. It's forgiving, which is rare in an updo.

Here's the thing about undone updos: they need more hair than neat ones, not less. All that intentional looseness has to come from somewhere. A clip-in filler through the back adds the density that makes an easy twist look full rather than sparse.

4. Voluminous Curls, Left Alone

Runway stylists spent AW26 working with natural texture rather than flattening it, reviving proper voluminous curls after several seasons of poker-straight everything. Good news for anyone tired of blow-drying, less good if your curls have thinned out.

Match the curl pattern before you buy, not after. Human hair extensions take heat styling well at 180°C or below with protectant, so you can shape them to sit alongside your own texture. Our guide to hair extension heat protection covers the temperatures worth sticking to.

5. Rich Autumn Colour Without the Commitment

Cherry red made an unexpected showing on the AW26 runways, and UK colourists are forecasting deep plum, velvet burgundy, espresso brunettes and soft copper for the season ahead. Beautiful shades. Also permanent ones, if you go the usual route.

Coloured clip-in pieces let you test a shade for an evening instead of a year, and they spare your natural hair the bleach. If the trend doesn't suit you, it comes out at 11pm and no colour correction appointment is required.

Trends Are Easier When You Can Take Them Out

What makes AW26 worth paying attention to is how little it asks of you. Softer shapes, natural texture, and colour you can experiment with. Explore our clip-in extensions and fillers to find the weight and shade that works with your hair, and try a season's worth of trends before deciding which ones are actually yours.
